Happy Thanksgiving!
Here we are, already at the end of November! Can you believe how fast this year has flown by?
I am so thankful for all of the people in my life. I am so grateful for all of the opportunities and new adventures we have experienced along the way.
Our Thanksgiving is not super typical anymore, now that we have a moto family. But we still celebrate with the same spirit.
Our boys participate in motocross and there’s a huge event in Florida we go to in November. Every day there’s a race and it’s this fun week of excitement with all the other moto families.
Because all of us are missing out on Thanksgiving at home, we usually coordinate and all park our campers together so we can have a make-shift party with lots of food.
It’s pretty cool to be in a different environment – you just see campers and trailers for acres. We pop out picnic tables and have a blast.
Now, I always say that you can give thanks throughout the year – not just on Thanksgiving. If anything, November should be a whole month of being grateful!
In the same way, Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be in a particular place either.
You can celebrate anywhere and make it as unconventional as you want.
To be honest, I do miss the traditional Thanksgiving feast sometimes. Jason and I both come from pretty small families, so when we do get together with our family, we invite friends and fill up the house with holiday cheer. It’s festive, special and a wonderful time.
We used to invite so many people over and make a huge deal out of it! We had leftovers for days.
The party-planner and hostess in me misses those days, but I’m open to change. Jason and I have had to figure it out as we go. But that’s compromise. You have to roll with the punches in life.
When we first started going down to Florida, we had to make an adjustment. We made the decision to go and make the best of it, and not worry about having a “non-Traditional Thanksgiving”.
And look at us now! We have an awesome time with new people and get to have the added bonus of enjoying motocross with our turkey in the camper ?
My favorite part – our company does a team call every year the night before Thanksgiving. It’s a moving experience where we all have a virtual team huddle and give thanks for the blessings in our life.
Now, the reception in this RV park is really tricky. We have to walk up this big hill and strain a certain way to get the best signal.
It’s also cold! Even though we’re in Florida, it still gets chilly at night, so we’re standing there, craning our necks – afraid to move and lose the signal – while we’re freezing our butts and trying not to let our teeth chatter while we talk ?
But it’s totally worth it!
Like I always say, it’s all about perspective. You have to be intentional if you want to do something.
If you want to have a turkey dinner with friends on the road, you improvise. If you want to participate in something, you have to make the effort, and sometimes, the sacrifice.
When it really comes down to it, it’s all about the love. Not the where, or when, or how, but the Why. Remember your Why this Thanksgiving and spread the love!
