Today I want to talk to you about something vital. Something foundational. Something that you need that hardly anybody has.

Follow through.

Yup. I know, it sounds easy and simple, but you’d be surprised how hard it can really be. Not only that, but you’d be surprised by how few people do it.

Following through will help you stand out from the crowd.

So many people start projects, but don’t finish them. So many people make connections with others, but don’t do the maintenance work of checking in. So many people begin promising work, but never put in the elbow grease to see it to its final stages.

And that’s how you can be different. Instead of just dropping the ball, instead of just quitting, follow through. Start something, and see it to the end.

One of the most important facets of following through is in the relationships you build in your business. It’s easy to feel like your job’s done once you’ve reached out to a client. Check it off the list and move on, right?

If you really want that connection to count for something, you need to follow through. Check in with them about what you talked about. See how you can help them.

It can be easy to feel like persistent, intentional follow throughs are nagging. In our culture of texting and email, calling people on the phone to check in can feel too personal.

But you have to remember, if you believe in your business, in what you are doing, then you have to believe that you and the person you are following through with are in a mutually beneficial relationship. That you are there to help them. If you believe in what you are doing, then you should be excited to share, excited to reach out and excited to follow through.

Another vital facet of following through is with your goals. It can be so easy to come up with lofty goals, to say that you are going to achieve this amazing thing, but to never actually work towards it in real ways.

Don’t just say you are going to do something. Don’t just say you are going to expand your business, get fit, or write that book. Do it.

Come up with little steps you can take to get closer to your goals. And when it get’s hard, when you get exhausted, don’t quit.

Keep going. Ask for help. Follow through.

So if you want to stand out among the crowd, then it’s time to follow through. To give it your all. Don’t just start projects, see them to the end. Don’t just reach out once — be consistant.

What are you going to follow through with today? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
