As a mom, heck – as a WOMAN – we can sometimes go overboard on trying to keep up.
We think everybody else is perfect – perfect house, perfect job, perfect kids, how do they do it??
And we don’t stop to realize that no one is perfect, and we can’t compare ourselves to others. That’s why I am always encouraging others to stay AWAY from trying to keep up with the Joneses.
My family and I have come so far and been so blessed by our financial freedom, but don’t let that fool you.
I still have NO idea what I’m doing and our lives are nowhere near perfect 🙂
I used to craft and paint home decor. I loved making crafts and doing different things for our house. I found it fun, relaxing and actually cathartic!
And then… something happened. I became so wrapped up in the next project, the perfection of it, etc that even something that had once been relaxing and enjoyable for me became super stressful.
All of a sudden, I was freaking out trying to make sure my project was done and beautiful before the kids got home, then I also had to cook, and keep in mind – I still work full time.
I was feeling overwhelmed and stressed out, instead of just treating it like a hobby, including the kids in the activity, and not caring how it turned out.
It’s ok if you are that real-life Pinterest mom and everything in your house is homemade. You are extraordinary! So much creativity and spark!
It’s also ok if you order what you need on Amazon and pay for it to be delivered the following morning. Amazon is awesome! Did you know you can even buy groceries now??
I have actually decided I am a little bit of both, which kind of reminds me of that song, Little Bit Country Little Bit Rock and Roll. An oldie but a goodie!
And that’s okay too! If there’s anything I’ve learned from trying to keep up with others, it’s that in the end – I just have to be myself.
Whatever I want to do, that’s what matters. I’d rather do what I enjoy and spend time how I want to – without judgment or anxiety. Become sometimes those DIY bracelets are ADORABLE, and sometimes I want to huck them across the room. (Enter Amazon).
It’s OKAY to not be perfect!!
The next time you’re thinking about how your life stacks up, try to think about all the things in your life that you are grateful for. Who is in your life that you love? What beautiful blessings surround you every day?
Be proud of your accomplishments – they are a reflection of you, your passion and your abilities.
I know it’s easier said than done, but be thankful for Him and his encouragement: “Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things.” Matthew 6:33
I still like to craft and paint things occasionally, but it also feels pretty good to jump online, order what I need and move on within 5 minutes!
